Apply for the New Jersey Domestic Violence Specialist (DVS) Certification!
The DVS Certification is a voluntary credential designed to recognize the expertise of domestic violence advocates and the specialized skills required to support survivors and work toward ending domestic and intimate partner violence at all levels.

What are the requirements to become certified?

Abide by the NJCEDV Domestic Violence Specialist (DVS) Professional Code of Ethics

Complete 1,000 hours of service in the field of domestic violence within the last 5 years

Complete 110 hours of training and education

Complete a self-evaluation

Provide three letters of reference.
All information and documentation will be submitted through the online application. To begin your application, please fill out the interest form. After completion of this form, you will be emailed links to complete the application components.
What are the requirements for recertification?
DVS Certification is valid for two years from the date the application is approved. To maintain certification, individuals must meet all recertification requirements every two years. These include:

Agreement to abide by the NJCEDV Domestic Violence Specialist Professional Code of Ethics

Completion of 20 clock hours of Training and Education with documentation

Submit responses to the self-evaluation through the online application

Fees & Payment
Application Fees:
The initial application fee of $125 must be submitted with the completed application.
The recertification fee of $25 must be submitted with the completed application.
All fees are non-refundable.
To ensure equity and accessibility, NJCEDV offers a sliding scale fee model and discounts for the initial application. Please review the Application Guide for more information.
Payment is only required when the application is complete.

With advocates and survivors across the state and country, NJCEDV advocates for state and federal policies to increase access to services, and safety for all survivors and communities.
Training
The NJ Coalition to End Domestic Violence provides training and education to member programs, community partners, and the community at large with the goal of creating systems and communities that are better informed on domestic violence and the ways we can work individually and collectively to respond to and prevent domestic violence in NJ.
